How can I help you?

What is the root person in the family tree?

The root person in the family tree is the default person when viewing your family tree. For example, when you go to your family tree, the tree will open with the root person at the center of the tree when you initially view your tree.

It is recommended that you select yourself as the Root Person of your family tree. If you are not in your family tree, you can select a primary person you are researching at the root person.

To see who is currently set at the root person of your family tree, follow these steps:

1. Login to your account at FamilyVault.
2. Click “My Family Tree, then click “Manage Tree”, then click “Change Root Person” to see who the current root person is in your family tree.
